Christmas in Broadstairs 2010
Christmas in Broadstairs 2010 took place over the weekend of 4th and 5th December 2010 in the Kent coastal town of Broadstairs.
The second annual Christmas Extravaganza proved to be another big success. Despite fears over the weather, the early season snowfall cleared on Saturday morning to allow all planned events to take place.
Father Christmas had a steady stream of visitors to his Grotto at Quorum, and the two Treasure Hunts proved to be another popular attraction, with people touring the town to find the hidden clues in shop windows. The Treasure Hunts were themed – Rock 'n' Roll songs and artists to go with the Rock 'n' Roll Xmas theme and the 12 days of Xmas – a traditional favourite, with pictures of the 12 days scattered in shop windows around the town.
The first winning entry drawn out of the hat won a limited edition 12 days of Xmas jigsaw.
The ice-rink drew the crowds to Pierremont Park on both days where hot food and drink was also available from the festive stalls in the park.
On Sunday with the snow gone, the day dawned bright and cold and again skating was the order of the day followed by entertainment from the KM Roadshow and local school and dance groups.
For the first time the various acts performed in the park on Sunday afternoon to compete for the Best Act and the winners – Bromstone County Primary School, were awarded the Broadstairs and St. Peter's shield. This will be competed for annually at the Broadstairs Extravaganza.
Following excellent performances by all the groups who took park, the parade of schoolchildren, led by Elvis took place in the High Street ending up at the KMFM stand at Pierremont where Elvis and KMFM's Johnny Lewis counted down to the big Xmas lights switch on.
The evening was then completed at The Barnaby Rudge pub where local rock duo, Surf Dude Grandad Duo closed events.
The 2011 Xmas Extravaganza will take be on Sunday 4th December 2011.
